Located 50 minutes west of Drayton Valley, on the very edge of our bucket list and just beyond the community of Lodgepole you will find the Brazeau West Canal.
The “canal” portion of the west canal is a shore fishing hot spot. There is a road just past the Brazeau Reservoir bridge that you can pull off on. The banks of the canal are shored up with large rock proper footwear is recommended.
The main body of water extending from the canal can be accessed at the West Canal Campground in the Brazeau Provincial Recreation Area off the powerhouse road this campground has a boat launch.
Species of fish that you will find include whitefish, perch, cutthroat trout, northern pike, rainbow trout, lake trout, brook trout, bull trout and brown trout here.
