Water Activity
The Brazeau Reservoir is located 43 minutes west of Drayton Valley and is closest to the community of Lodgepole. The dam is a beautiful water feature of the west country and is surrounded by crown land. It is fed by the Brazeau River with tributaries from the Nordegg River, the Balckstone and the Elk River.
The Brazeau Reservoir is used as an access point by jet boaters to the Brazeau River heading west, it is also frequented by anglers, paddlers, lake boaters, and even scuba divers. The sizeable sandy beach is also a Family Fun place to visit.
The dam can be accessed from:
- The boat launch located at the Brazeau Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area.
The Brazeau Reservoir is an operational dam so water levels do fluctuate significantly and can expose “deadhead” logs that can be hazardous.
Species of fish that you will find include whitefish, perch, cutthroat trout, northern pike, rainbow trout, lake trout, brook trout, bull trout and brown trout here.

OHV and Sledding Activity
There are a number of informal OHV trails in the vicinity. These can be used as sledding trails during the winter.
There is no formal staging area and the trails are unmarked.
OHV riding: informal trails in the vicinity; OHV off-loading within the provincial campground and travel to trails from campsites prohibited.
Snowmobiling: informal trails in the vicinity; snowmobile off-loading within and travel to trails from group campground permitted.
