Family Adventures

Beach Time

In the lazy hazy, hot days of summer you might find that your family wants to skip town for a day at the beach. To the southwest of Drayton Valley is the Brazeau Reservoir with a very large sandy beach the nearest community is Lodgepole. To the northeast is Seba Beach, located at the community centre in Seba Beach. If you don’t want to venture too far from Drayton Valley AB then choose from a variety of riverfront rocky beaches at the Pembina or the North Saskatchewan Rivers.

Seba Beach: 37 minutes

Hiking trails (Click for more ideas)

This part of West Central Alberta has an abundance of unmarked hiking opportunities. But if getting on the beaten track is more your speed then exploring the regions beautiful interpretive trails is definitely a Bucket List to do. To the east of Drayton Valley just over the North Saskatchewan River bridge in the Eagle Point Provincial Park you will find three interpretive trails : the Hill Top Trails, the Hillside Trails and a short family friendly trail located at the Willey West Campground. North of Drayton Valley at the Pembina River Provincial Park there are a series of trails that connect the communities of Entwistle AB and Evansburg AB in a beautiful hike through the Pembina River Valley.
Also located in Brazeau County Pembina Rotary Community Trails/Nordic Ski Trails South are a circular connection of trails with interpretative signage and the north trails which do not have interpretative signage but are still very beautiful.

Hilltop, Hillside and Willey West Trails: 13 minutes
Pembina Rotary Community Trails North/Nordic Ski Trails: 11 minutes
Pembina Rotary Community Trails South/Nordic Ski Trails: 5 minutes

Outdoor Skating

With so many lakes and rivers, outdoor winter skating in the region can be easily accessed with the right weather conditions. But, even if the mercury has not dipped to freeze up a lake you can still get outside on your skates. In Drayton Valley AB there are two locations for outdoor skating there is a regulation sized skating rink with an additional learn to skate area in the heart of Discovery Park. Also in Drayton Valley in the heart of Downtown there is a smaller family sized skating pad. If you want to get out of town then let your blades take you to Rocky Rapid, where you will find a regulation skating rink on their community hall grounds. The community of Breton also has a regulation sized outdoor arena managed by the local Lions Club, there is also a heated change room area. Moving on to Alder Flats, you will find a community run open access unheated indoor skating rink. This facility also has a heated change room area.

Breton outdoor arena: 33 minutes

Pump Track

Using Drayton Valley AB as your staging area you can easily make a day out visiting pump tracks. Just 30 minutes north of Drayton Valley you will find a pump track located on the Tipple Park Museum grounds. After spending the morning in Evansburg AB, circle back to Lion’s West Valley Park in Drayton Valley and spend the afternoon on Canada’s largest pumptrack. With multiple levels of difficulty. This pumptrack is suitable for bikes, skateboards and scooters.

Tipple Park, Evansburg: 34 minutes

Rotary Splash Park

The Rotary Splash Park is located in the heart of Drayton Valley. It is open May long weekend to September long weekend, weather permitting. Located at Rotary Park, there are bathroom facilities, a playground, tennis courts, and ample space to bring a picnic blanket and spend an afternoon.

Skate Parks

The 4-S Skate Park in Drayton Valley is a concrete skate park with a variety of features including: horseshoe open bowl, stair sets, manny pads, ledges, hips, rails, gaps and the signature “Fun Track”. The park is used year round by skateboarders and snowboarders. East of Drayton Valley the community of Breton, AB has a skatepark with multiple structures located at Maple Ridge Park.

Tobogganing and Tubing

What is a Canadian winter without tobogganing. The community of Drayton Valley has three toboggan hills located in parks and playground in the community: Peace Park, Ivan to Park, and St. Anthony School playground. If you are into a bit more speed then check out tubing at the Drayton Valley Brazeau Snow Club Ski Hill. Note all hills are weather dependent.

Walking and biking paths

With 14 km of paved walking paths, your family can spend a day biking, scooting or rollerblading through and around Drayton Valley. The trail system also connects with trails located in Brazeau County traversing the length of the ring road all the way to the community of Rocky Rapids, AB.
