The Drayton Valley Food Bank is gearing up for the winter season.
One local company is working to raise money for a local non-profit organization. FYI Doctors participates in an enhancing life program once a year and this year they have decided to donate the proceeds to Brighter Futures, a program that offers support for parents with young children.
This prompted me to wonder what other hidden gems we had in Drayton Valley that could be used to make an at home spa day.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Day poppy in Canada. In honour of the occasion there is a special pin, based on the original 1921 poppy, available from the Drayton Valley Legion for $10. New this year is the ability for people to donate to the poppy fund by scanning a QR code on the collection box with their phone.
Seeing the leaves disappearing reminds me that Halloween is fast approaching so that means it’s almost time for our Second Annual Pumpkin Walk. For those of you who missed last year’s event, let’s just say you missed a “gourd” time. Imagine walking a spooky, moonlit path, with a slight chill in the air, seeing assorted Jack O’ Lanterns glimmer on the trail's edge. It was super fun!
One local cowgirl is headed to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Red Deer with dreams of becoming Miss Rodeo Canada. Jayden Calvert was born and raised in the Drayton Valley area and comes from a line of rodeo queens. She says she’s always wanted to achieve this honour, and right now she’s very close to getting there.
The Drayton Valley Brazeau Snow Club operates the recreational ski/snowboard & snow tubing area in Brazeau County 11 minutes northeast of Drayton Valley.
Ski the Pembina Nordic Ski Trails in beautiful Brazeau County. Built on and along the North Saskatchewan River Valley there is 30km of flat, and hilly terrain. Groomed for skate skiing and classic skiing. It closed to foot traffic, and domestic animal walking during the ski season.
The Drayton Valley Fire Department is looking for a few good men or women. Joey Cherpin, the fire training officer and director of emergency management for the Town of Drayton Valley, says they have an active recruitment status at the moment that will remain open until the end of October.
