Nothing beats a weekend hanging with your closest gal pals.

As life piles on work and family obligations sometimes a girl needs to just get away – for the weekend, or two, or three. No matter the time frame a  girls golfing weekend is always a great way to catch up, wind down and let loose.

But first, plan. Using Drayton Valley as your jumping off point you have easy access to 7 golf courses that are within a 40 minute drive.

Drive times from Drayton Valley

  • Drayton Valley Golf and Country Club: 7 min
  • The Village Golf Course, Birchwood: 21 min
  • Big Tee Golf Resort, Breton Breton: 31 min
  • The Village of Breton Golf Club, Breton: 33 minutes
  • Raven Meadows Golf Resort, Alder Flats: 30 min
  • Pembina Valley Golf Club, Evansburg: 31 min
  • Trestle Creek Golf Resort, Hwy 16: 33 minutes
  • Pine Ridge Golf Course (12 holes), Seba Beach: 39 min

If you are planning to stay at a hotel then check first to see if any courses have stay and play discount rates on room rentals and green fees. Some of the courses listed have RV camping on site or have hotels on site.

Try to keep your guest list so they can be split  into groups of 4 so you don’t get paired up with peeps not a part of your group. Two girls to a cart, four girls to a round easy peesy.

If you are planning to have a group gathering on a week make sure you book well in advance of the play date this way you will be able to secure a tee time around the course tournament schedule and the busy weekend golf crowd.

A basic weekend itinerary would include;

Friday meet at the course of your choosing for an after work tee time. Because it is later in the day, plan for nine holes. Head to the hotel and get checked-in. Now it is getting into the evening and you are probably hungry, head out to one of the fabulous restaurants in Drayton Valley for dinner, tapas, and beverages.

Start fresh on Saturday with a morning or mid-morning tee time. This will allow you to get a round of 18 holes in and still have some downtime in the afternoon to book a massage or spa treatment.

Plan to kick up your heels Saturday night with drinks and tapas on a Drayton Valley patio.

Sunday morning check out of the hotel and before you all split ways squeeze in that last round of nine. Get a group photo and plan to do it all again next year!

Fumbles and bumbles at Rose Creek

We were about 45 minutes into what turned out to be a very thick bushwack. I was mid-lunge and my ski was looking like a “U” as I tried to get over a fallen tree when my aunt asked, “How much weight do you think we can put on our skis before they break?” I paused, unweighted my ski and looked around to see if there was another way through.

DV100 a personal ride

Finally, seven years after I was first introduced to the DV100 I completed the 100km race.
I was first introduced to the event as a planner when I worked for the Drayton Valley Community Foundation.
