Cynthia Loop | Motorcycling Brazeau and Beyond

The Cynthia Loop is a short 91.4 km loop with the option of an extension ride to the community of Nordegg. This loop gets you to the edge of west country with thick Boreal Forest to the west, and clear-day mountain sightings. You will cross the Pembina River twice on this loop. 

You will be taken to the historic oil and gas communities of Cynthia and Lodgepole where you can stop in for some lunch at the Cyn City Saloon in Cynthia or the Lodgepole Hotel. 

The Route

Distance: 91.4km

Leaving Drayton Valley head west on 50th Ave. Turn north on RR85, turn west on Hwy 620 (Cynthia Hwy) heading to the community of Cynthia. Head north on Hwy 753 to Lodgepole. At Lodgepole you can head east back to Drayton Valley via Twp 620 for a short loop, or head west for a stop at the Brazeau Reservoir.

  • Bearpaw Ranch off RR 90 and Cynthia Highway 
  • Mitch’s Cynthia Campground and Cyn City Saloon, Cynthia
  • Pembina River at Lodgepole
  • “Welcome to Lodgepole” sign 

Nordegg Extension

Distance: Duration: 121km (Lodgepole to Nordegg), 191km (Nordegg to Drayton Valley)

If this is the first ride of you stay then you may want to extend the ride beyond the Brazeau Reservoir and along the Sunchild Road (Twp 620) to Hwy 11 on to Nordegg for a taste of the Rocky Mountains before heading back via Hwy 11 to Rocky Mountain House and north on the Cowboy Trail to back to Drayton Valley

Buck Lake

Buck Lake is located 33 min South of Drayton Valley. The closest access to amenities are in the communities of Buck Lake and Alder Flats.
